What do Noah, Moses, Mary the Mother of Jesus, Goliath and Pontus Pilate have in common? They will all appear in major motion pictures that are currently being produced. According to Nicola Menzie reporting for the Christian Post, big name studios, directors and stars are working on the films.
Darron Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan) helms a Noah project. Warner Brothers hopes that Steven Spielberg will do for Moses what he did for Lincoln. Ridley Scott has also indicated an interest in Moses. Lionsgate is offering Mary Mother of Christ as a sort of prequel to what Mel Gibson did in Passion of the Christ.
A majority of the studio films in production today are remakes, sequels or super hero comic book movies. It makes sense that eventually Hollywood would turn again to the original super heroes of faith and culture and remake the stories told for thousands of years. The big question will be the extent to which these films will convey the meaning and intent of the original stories.
