JK Rowling and Warner Brothers announced today a new series of films from the wizard world of Harry Potter.  The films are based on one of Rowling fictional text books “Fantastic Beasts and How to Find them.”  The films will chronicle the fictional author, Newt Salamander’s adventures with magical creatures while doing the research for the book.

JK Rowling who wrote the original Harry Potter Series which has sold over $450 million copies, will herself write the screenplays for the new films.  Rowling says of the new films “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'” is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” said Rowling. “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

The stories will also be made into books and video games.
